Yes, paint curing time depends on numerous factors, including the type of paint, the temperature catalyst, the temperature reducer and the type of drying method that was used. We always recommend using a professional body shop and let them know you plan to install Paint Protection Film. All repainted parts should be removed from the vehicle to allow painting the complete part and have them fully keyed and primed in accordance to OEM requirements.

Factory finishes are baked onto the surface at 350+ degrees which allows a much harder surface and better cohesion bond. Repainted surfaces can be baked only at 150 degrees to prevent damage to the vehicles components.

The minimum time we would recommend to have Paint Protection Film installed is 30 days to ensure any residual gassing out is complete alleviating the risk of bubbles forming under the film. Some body shops recommend up to 90 days for full paint cure. If a vehicle is in an environment that is cooler than 55 degrees F, the curing process essentially stops and will not resume until the temperature goes above the 55 F mark. If the paint is not fully cured, and film is applied, out gassing will occur under the film. Always confirm with your painter.

Many vehicle owners believe the cost of a repainted bumper or hood/fenders/mirrors is less than the installation of a clear bra. This is just not true and still be able to maintain the original vehicle look and fit. Let me address two scenarios:

1. You may save some money if you repaint the bumper/hood while the parts are still on the vehicle vs removing them to get a professional respray. However, this is not the recommended method of repaint and many body shops will not warranty this type of work. The paint will not hold up as well since the prep and respray does not cover the complete part (edges, hidden painted sections, etc.). Upon inspection many would know the vehicle was repainted and leave a prospective buyer weary, not knowing if the vehicle was in an accident or just repainted and if so why was it repainted. Many owners, depending on the vehicle, will bypass the insurance company and repaint a vehicle out of pocket so no one will know the vehicle was repainted or possibly even repaired AND the work will not show up on a Car Fax report.

2. You will not save any money for a professional repaint which includes removal of parts to be prepared, sprayed and reinstalled. You will need to drop your vehicle off for 3 to 5 days and address any other issues which may arise. Many owners will bypass the insurance company and repaint a vehicle out of pocket so no one will know the vehicle was repainted or possibly even repaired AND the work will not show up on a Car Fax report... Do you want to purchase your next used vehicle knowing it was repainted or would you continue looking for one you know was NOT repainted – for whatever reason?

Use a formulated special cleaner for stainless steel, after applying the cleaner & polish, wipe in the direction of the natural metal grain to clean microscopic grooves where dust and dirt get trapped. Avoid abrasive cleaners, powders, scouring pads and brushes that may scratch and damage stainless steel. Avoid using glass cleaners, all purpose cleaners and harsh chemicals like chlorine or bleach because they may leave streaks and damage or discolor the outer protective layer of the surface. Use a paper towel or soft micro fiber cloth to clean stainless steel. Don't leave ordinary steel in contact with stainless steel under damp conditions because an adverse reaction between the metals may cause discoloration. After cleaning, buff with a soft, clean, dry cloth to remove any residue that may be left on the surface. Make sure to completely dry the surface after cleaning to prevent spotting and streaking.

Will my automotive insurance cover the reapplication of Paint Protection Film kit in case of an accident?

Yes, in most cases, all major automotive insurance carriers will cover removal and replacement of your Paint Protection Film/Clear Bra. Take an active role and do not leave the removal and replacement scope up to the insurance agent/body shop.

1. Always inform your automotive insurance carriers of any modifications or add on options to your vehicle.

2. Insure to match paint protection film manufacturer with existing undamaged films. If you have warranty card or know your film manufacturer provide this information to your estimator and insure you have local installer would supports this film. This issue is most critical when you are matching side by side films and insuring you have installer to perform the work.

3. Insure your paint protection film removal covers damaged and possible undamaged areas. Many times the patterns used will not match existing pattern alignments points. Example: damaged right fender with film protection may not match the alignment to the undamaged hood paint protection film - in this case the hood and left fender paint protection film may need to be removed. Knowing this at the time of the estimate will save you time and aggravation.

4. Should you damage your film and are unsure if underlying paint is damaged stop by your local paint protection film installer. You may be surprised you only need to have the film removed and re-installed or professionally reconditioned. This will save you time and money. (Refer to the picture below.)

We recommend letting the insurance agent or body shop know which paint protection shop you recommend for the estimate and reinstallation of the Paint Protection Film. At Clearshield Protection we work directly with all major automotive insurance carriers and body shops to remove and re-install your Paint Protection Film/Clear Bra. We will provide the vehicle owner or estimator with a picture of the pattern, material used and cost for re-installation.

You will usually need to wait a period of time after the paint work to allow the paint to cure prior to re-installation of the Paint Protection Film. Verify the duration time with your body shop. You may want the option to remove the re-installation scope of the paint protection film from the scope of the body shop scope and work directly with your local paint protection film installer. Always use a certified installer to insure you obtain quality work and most importantly a film manufacturer warranty and installer warranty.

This low mileage 2006 Lexus SC430 is in absolute immaculate condition. This repeat Client wanted it to stay that way. So we installed a Clear Bra using XPEL and Digital Designs (DD) Patterns. We customized the rocker panel DD pattern for improved coverage, fully wrapped and better fitment. Plus we bulked rear rocker panel (no kit available) behind the rear wheels. Used Avery Dennision Nano Fusion.

Hood and fenders (inside engine bay and fender well) fully wrapped.

Metallic Silver Paint Wrap on a Clubman Golf Cart

We completed a full cleaning and prep. It really needed a bath.

Only area we did not need to wrap was the basket area.
This will get full carpeting.

We spend some extra time to protect the wrap from wear and tear.
Oraguard 270 Paint Protection film was installed in the fender wells, seat top rub area and corners (where I am currently working) this will ensure durability.

We applied Zymol Tyre on the tires, front and side rub strips. Later, some graphics, seats, and full overhead protection will be installed. Pics later.

This client wanted the ultimate in paint protection. We used 3M Paint Protection Film and XPEL premium patterns with full wrap features. First we fully inspected the vehicle, washed, dryed and began the paint cleaning process to insure a proper bond for the paint protection film and paint.

Full coverage hood with bikini fenders, mirrors, lights, fogs and wrapped bumper. We wrapped into the fender wells and all other areas as required. Lights are protected by XPEL 30 mil clear film - this film will not only protect from sand abrasion and yellowing but more importantly against light breakage.

Attention to detail is paramount. We removed the lights, blinkers, tow hood cover and hood emblem prior to installation. The less edges the better and cleaner look.

We removed the original rear fender protection - This area is highly prone to chipping and the OEM piece is quite small. We added a full rocker coverage integrated into the rear fender protection and wrapped into the rear fender, door areas and front fender zones. Clear edge free design. This option offers 80% more coverage while protecting the full rocker to the front fender.

We also installed full rear fender wrapped rocker coverage to protect from rocks and debris flying up from the huge race tires.

Thousands of accidents were linked to ineffective light output due to worn and cloudy headlights. Traditionally auto manufacturers have been producing cars with composite headlamp units made from either poly carbonate or acrylic materials. While these materials are great for designing today's lights, they have a tendency to deteriorate over time. Lenses become cloudy and discolored due to oxidation caused by harmful UV rays, and become pitted by rocks, road salt, debris and sand. This discoloration, pitting and cracking not only affects the appearance, but it also reduces the performance of your lights.

Should I purchase clear bra from my car dealership?

While buying products directly from the dealership at the time of vehicle purchase has its benefits, i.e., the costs can be included in the financing, some believe it is the only way to get the product, they will get a warranty, some believe it is just easier, and finally, some believe the cost will be about the same so they might as well just get it all at the same time and from the same location. While many of these reasons are correct, here are some other issues you should consider:

· Many dealerships try to install film with their current employees and as such may not meet the clients’ quality standards.

· Should you wish to use a dealership to install your clear bra insure they are using a certified installer which is experienced, reputable, offers both a manufacture's and installation warranty.

· Dealerships may use least cost films and kit designs. The kits are preset, no coverage options and offer minimal coverage which often miss the critical protection areas.

· Dealerships may not provide you with a manufacture's warranty card or offer no installation warranty.

· Dealerships may charge an absorbent cost for the clear bra, knowing the clear bra will be included in your vehicles' purchase.

· Dealerships want to get the job done quickly and as inexpensively as possible in order to get the car out the door. This benefits the dealership and not the client.

Proper care and maintenance of the film will prolong the life of your Paint Protection Film. Frequent washing and waxing/sealing is recommended. Always remove bugs and sap as soon as possible as you would your painted surfaces. We recommend the use professional grade automotive soaps with lubricity additives and a premium wash mitt. Acrylic sealants – offer the best protection and durability. Apply sealant protection at least every three months
